PSS International Conference 2024

Team MHP Presents at the PSS 2024 International Conference

From October 2 to 4, 2024, the Malayang Hanapbuhay Project (MHP) team proudly participated in the Philippine Sociological Society (PSS) 2024 International Conference held at Caraga State University, Butuan City. Themed "Imagining (De)Colonization: Reflections, Directions, Actions,” this year’s conference brought together scholars, researchers, and practitioners to engage in critical conversations on power, labor, and lived realities.

Our team presented a panel session featuring research projects grounded in the lived experiences of Filipino freelancers. These presentations were anchored on themes of precarity, labor, and the negotiation of freedom in the Philippine creative economy. Each paper drew from our ongoing faculty-led initiative under the Sociology of Work agenda of the UST Department of Sociology, and contributes to the larger sociological mapping of freelance life in the country.

We are deeply grateful to the Philippine Sociological Society for the platform, and to our mentors and communities for their continued support.

As we continue our journey to unpack “malayang hanapbuhay,” we bring home not just insights, but deeper conviction to center the voices and realities of Filipino freelancers.
